Reiki (Usui Method)

Reiki is a hands on healing technique that is performed through clothing. Tibetan in origin, it was developed in 19th century Japan by Dr Mikao Usui. Reiki transfers universal energy on emotional, physical and spiritual levels, for the harmony of the body, mind and soul.

Reiki creates a wonderful sense of well-being and promotes self-awareness and self-transformation. It supports all forms of treatment, both orthodox and complementary. It works on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level.

´Rei´ means universal and ´Ki´ means Life Force. The life force animates the body and is the primary impetus of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life. If your life force is low, or there is a restriction in its flow, you will tend to be more susceptible to illness. When it is strong and flowing freely, you are less likely to become ill. Reiki works by increasing and harmonising your life force so that you feel more energised and relaxed following a treatment.

Reiki is not a religion or faith system. All that is necessary is the will to heal and to be whole.

What does it involve?

As a Reiki Master I act as a channel through which the Reiki energy flows. During a Reiki treatment I will gently place my hands over the body of the clients using a specific, non –intrusive, sequence of hands positions. This allows the energy to flow throght the energy field and the body of the client evenly, balancing and re-charging on all levels (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual).

Reiki energy naturally flows to the places where it is most needed, thus helping to stimulate and support the client´s own healing abilities.

Prior to the initial treatment a confidential health and lifestyle consultation will be carried out. A Reiki treatment session will last for 1 hour.

What is it good for?

The benefits of Reiki healing can include deep relaxation, accelerated healing, increased vitality, emotional balancing and improved creativity and personal developments. Reiki is said to work for the ´highest good´ of the individual. Thus, Reiki may not always offer a cure for a specific ailment. However, most people find treatments beneficial and enjoyable.

Reiki is safe and complementary to other forms of healthcare.

This is a very gentle mode of healing that is carried out with the client fully clothed.

What are the side effects and when should it be avoided?

It is safe for everyone, including children and the elderly and only contra-indicated for those wearing a pacemaker.

As a general rule, Reiki cannot do any harm because it is a form of non-invasive energy healing and will adjust itself to create the most appropriate effect for each individual person. However, althought most people feel peaceful and relaxed after treatments, it can stir uup emotions as part of the healing process. Some people also experience a healing reactions such as a heachache or flu like symptoms but any discomfort should be short-lived.

Reiki can be received as often as needed. The first 3 sessions should be no more than 21 days apart. Maintenance is recommended once a month or as needed.

One Reiki session will allow you to experience how it feels, successive treatments are recommended as they allow you to see the difference Reiki can have on our physical and emotional well-being.

The secret method of inviting happiness into your life is to follow the Reiki Principles:

Just for today, do not anger.
Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today honour your parents, teachers and elders.
Just for today earn your living honestly.
Just for today show gratitude for every living thing.
